Stupid Stuffyshirt Tantrums

Have you ever been on the receiving end of too many furious texts sent in the middle of the night? If you haven't, it's probably because you didn't leave an impression on Alma. Yesterday Abraham left an impression on Alma, layered over her first. When she first met him, she was excited to meet a stuffyshirt mage for the very first time. "These guys? They like, study things systematically and shit. They know how to study and do serious research." "Maybe you can learn from them even though they are ultimately limited by the systems they construct. Some probably break though, but they make it too hard. Maybe it's like academia in general, really." (Alma is a young academic, and still imagines her brilliant self making huge breakthroughs in her field. and why do people not make huge breakthroughs all the time?) Imagine someone thinking, "This guy did really cool diagrams and fun things and oooooo. ok, but fuck this guy now. Whatever happened to him has defeated him and he can't imagine a better world. I thought he was fighting despite whatever happened. nope. nope nope nope. idiot. why are people such idiots?" |

people already can get in to others heads, with facial expressions, talking, facebook posts. society has already changed beause of it and just because some people can go farther doesn't mean they should have different rules. we all have to learn the same things. how to be polite. how to behave respectfully even when we don't agree. how to socially lie and pretend you didn't hear that. privacy gives people room to break social rules, like two women can love each other, or three people can love each other. there are different *degrees* of privacy and in some places people are partially open, go to Palmer Park and people might hold hands there when they can't hold hands somewhere else. But there will be borders where people meet and don't yell or kill each other. so maybe it is harder for mages beause they have more than just seeing somene hold hands but haven't they had to do a lot mroe work to get there? ok, then they can do a little bit more work not to throw hissy fits like children who can't handle things yet. if you don't think that is possible then I'm not helping. maybe you can join me in my spaces if you can learn to behave. some time later Alma texts, "and I don't know what you regret so much but maybe that's what keeps you from thinking you can build a place like that" |
