When you put in jobs, we need information from you. Specifically:

  • WHAT are you trying to do (objective)
  • WHO or WHAT is the target
  • WHERE and WHEN are you doing this
  • WHO else is helping or invited
  • WHY are you doing it (is there some bigger plan you’re doing this toward)
  • HOW are you doing it (methods and materials)

Some of these may be super relevant to what you’re trying to do, and others not so much. If you tell me you’d like to start a letter-writing campaign, I might not care much where you write your letters; if I do, I’ll tell you. The WHAT and the HOW, however, are always important, and the WHY is very helpful.

It’s especially important that you put enough detail into jobs when you’ve gotten information from other characters.

“I got stuff about Plot X from Player Y and I’m gonna research”

... is a terrible, terrible job that makes me want to set people on fire.

“Player Y drew a map to the secret lair of Shub-Niggurath and gave my character a copy. I would like to plot it on a modern map, then research historic occult activity in that area. I’ll do this by going to that town’s library and looking through microfilm. My Research specialty in ‘weird shit happening’ and my enigmas specialty in ‘Chthonic horrors’ probably apply.”

...is wonderful, but what are you even DOING.
