Aaron picks up the phone. "Hello," he says.
"Hi, it's Alma. I checked in on Al and she was asleep and everything looked in order. So that's good. I was wondering if I could come by and use your library soon?"
Aaron says, "Yes, of course. Just let me know so that I can be here."
Alma says, "Ok, thanks. What is your schedule going to be like when Al checks out? I'll call you when you can be away to go to your library."
Aaron says, "I honestly don't know, but I'm sure we can work something out."
Alma says, "Ok..." followed by a little pause before continuing, "Have you ever taken care of someone checking out from a hospital before?'"
Aaron says, "No, but I am sure I'll be up to the task."
Alma .oO( Does he know that women might need monthly supplies and does she need help bathing herself and and )
Alma says, "Oh certainly. Do you know how to give someone a bedbath?"
Aaron .oO( I am sure the person I will hire will know all of these things. )
Aaron says, "No, but I imagine it can't be that hard. I trust the doctors will give me a ream of instructions."
Alma .oO( what a bedside manner )
Alma tries to stumble through an eplanation for why instrunctions from the
doctors might not be enough. "I find sometimes that doctors can let a lot of
things slip because they just haven't thought of it. like, does any of the
aftercare medication she's on cause more bleedthrough in her menstrual
cycle..." .oO( I bet he's never... has he ever even bought supplies before? )
Alma continues, "she's probably been combed over by neurologists so they might
not be thinking the same way a obgyn does.
Alma thinks, .oO( Does she need any help bathing herself? I don't even know how
good she can walk right now. ugh, does he even know her bathing routine? it's
probably /really/ important to her, and she won't be able to... )
"and... have you noticed she doesn't like dirt? I'm sure, I'm certainly sure,
you have. so you need to be really careful and bath her in the way that she is
comfortable being bathed. I don't know if she is going to have any mobility
issues."
Alma stumbles, "I mean, I don't mean to... We aren't friends like this, but I don't know how many friends she has, and you don't have practice doing bedside stuff."
Aaron says "I'm sure we'll manage. Perhaps this can be an opportunity for you to _become_ friends like this. She needs more real friends."
Alma asks, "I... was going to ask about stopping by with food or something. I wasn't sure. What kind of dietary resstrictions does she have?"
Aaron tells Alma about Al's food needs and restrictions.
Alma tells Aaron, "Ok, I got you. I'll check back later to see when she's checked out... or actually, you could call or text me."
