DETROIT UMBRA OVERFLIGHT - James N. Gomez - Today I sought to use whatever information I have access to, in order to gain a better understanding of miss Maya's map, especially of the 'white zone' of the Umbra. I did this by flying to the airport area in the 'real world', and then stepping into the Umbra. Oddly I found that on that side, outside of the trouble zone, there were no maps, no warnings, or anything warning travelers about the trouble in Detroit. On my way out, I left my own warning of danger in Detroit.
Outside of the city, the Umbra is what you'd expect: the shadows of a decaying city. But once you get close enough, there's an abrupt change of situation. This event horizon is just outside of the 'white zone', which is like a giant revival tent draped over the entire city, made of thick cloth woven from Weaver spider silk. The tent seems to take up the entire area of the Detroit city bubble inside the Umbra, which is much larger than the corresponding area in the real world.
I know the size difference because I flew above the tent. I could see the whole Umbral city from above. There are lights inside visible from above. Major buildings are like mountains, huge, too high for me to fly over even in the umbra. These peaks are like the tent poles of the revival tent. Mountain sized and much wider in land area.
Visible in the fabric of the tent are pattern spiders. They appear to be constantly maintaining the fabric. If they're growing it, I wasn't able to see at this time scale.
<<Attached here is a sketch of the Umbral map from the Umbral side, giving the shape of the city in the Umbra, with landmarks (buildings and light sources) marked. Questions about what this map looks like will need adjudicated later by staff>>
Those are the facts of what I saw. Here are my opinions: I said before that what I've seen makes me think the whole Umbral city is being turned into a giant engine of some kind. Energy flows, with the lake being the sink. The fabric keeps it all contained. The white towers help move water around. But what acts as the fuel? And what is being powered?
One thing that might be being powered, is the whole event horizon bubble surrounding the city, shielding it from being seen from the outside. But that might just be part of it, and the remaining energy gets used in other ways. Next I will go to Zug Island for clues, but not on the Umbral side. Yet.
