11:30 P.M, Friday June 13th, Just as Alex's contact described there is a black sedan sitting alone on the vacant Mack Avenue. Headlight on, and idle. The potential client. All the young woman needs to do is pull up and flash her headlights twice. The response should be the same from her client's car, and then the meeting can take place. It's quiet, lonely and dark amidst the disincorporated East Side.

Alex arrives right on time. It's one of the things that the people recommending her would say. She's punctual. The other is that she's discrete and to the point. Just as she should be when dealing with important people. The black BMW pulls into place not far away. She is squinting as she looks out the windshield at the vehicle in question. A faint shrug follows and then Alex keys her headlights. Two flashes, just like the instructions say. Then she waits. While she does the girl is removing her ear-buds and tucking them into a pocket.

A light rain begins to fall, the drizzle streaking Alex's windshield, but not enough to obscure the tell-tale flash if the headlights in reply. The meet is on. The illumination allow for a good view of the driver as he gets out, despite the distance between the cars. He's a well dressed, large man with broad shoulders and dark hair. He stands tall, scanning the area while he adjusts him jacket. There is a certain clandestine air to the meeting having just caught a peek at such a man. Apparently convinced things are safe, he moves to the back door and opens it. The client appears.

He is a small man, dressed in a dark suit and a long coat. Older, maybe late fifties, with round, wire-rim glasses and a waxy complexion. He opens an umbrella and begins to slowly move between the cars, half the distance from Alex's BMW.

A half beat and then Alexandria's door opens as well. She steps out into the rain. There's a brief, resigned gaze cast upward toward the clouds, her left eyebrow lofting slightly as it is. Then a rain drop lands in the right and she looks back to the man she is meeting, blinking it away as she does. A few steps closer then, with Alex tilting her head slightly to the left a she gets a good look at both men. She buries her hands into the denim jacket she is wearing for warmth as she comes close.

"Hey," Alex calls by way of greeting. "I heard you were looking for a courier." She isn't speaking loud enough to be overheard, given how empty the area is. "Alex Lewis. Pleased to meet you. What's the deal?"

“Pleazed to meet you also fraulein Lewis,” the small man announces from the distance of a few feet away. He is possessed of a thick German accent. “You may call me Herr… Herr Kaufmann,” he replies with a smile that looks altogether out of place gracing his waxen complexion. “You come highly recommended as a discrete courier. Is this true?”

"Herr Kaufmann," Alex greets quietly. She keeps her gaze focused onto the man for a second, taking a second to consider him a bit more carefully. "Absolutely. I can deliver just about anything. Just tell me where and when- and if it's going to be dangerous. You know?" She nods once firmly, full of confidence. "I'm also fast, if that's what you need."

"We possezz a contact number for a frauline Black, Josie Black. frauline Black haz retained an item for us, a book to be precize," Kaufmann explains. The rain begins to fall slightly heavier, adding a low crackle to the ambiance as it splashes down on forgotten pavement streets. "We would like you to facilitate an exchange with frauline Black. We will give you an account number which she may use to confirm her payment." He pauses for a moment, indicating the umbrella's protection to Alex should she choose to join him. "We are under zee impression frauline Black encountered some trouble acquiring zee book, so there is zee possibility of that same problem occurring during zee exchange. Will this be an issue for you, frauline Lewis?"

Alex does step forward then, joining the man underneath his umbrella. He might be small but she has to look up a little bit nevertheless. A bead of water is running along the girl's nose, but then she shakes her head just once. "No problem at all. So, give her the account number, confirm payment, retrieve your book, and...?" She hovers on that last point, tilting her head as she does so. "Anyhow. No problem at all. We'll see what the trouble ends up being. That's nothing new, though."

“Excellent,” Kaufmann states as he retrieves a card from the interior of his suit. “Once you zee book, you will contact this number. Zomeone vill make arrangements to secure it from you, and you vill be provided with an account number so you can confirm your own payment.” He smiles, Alex’s headlights causing his complexion to glisten slightly. “Oh, one more thing. Zee book must not be opened. It is locked to prevent this, but I would reiterate the importance of keeping zee book closed, yes?”

"Yes. Keep it closed. I don't look at the contents of the packages anyhow. Part of being discrete." Alex nods firmly at this, tilting her head again as she considers the man in front of her. "It sounds as though we have an accord, Herr Kaufmann." Alex reaches out to take the card from him then, drawing a deep breath as she does so. "Awesome. Sounds pretty straightforward. I'll be in touch soon to arrange the final drop."

“You vill require this,” Kaufmann indicates as he slips a cellular phone from his coat pocket. “Frauline Black’s contact number is programmed into zee memory.” He holds out the phone, and smiles again, the headlights catching a flash of silver in his mouth, an incisor possibly. “If this goes vell, ve may possibly have other jobz for you in zee future, yes?”

"It'll go well," Alex responds simply. She takes the phone from Kaufmann, tucking it into the left pocket of her jean jacket. She tilts her head slightly as she considers the man in front of her a moment longer. Then she lowers her head slightly. "I hope you enjoy your readin’ when it gets here." A wry smile is offered at that.

Kaufmann smiles, light again sparkling on his silver tooth. “Zes, it should be very interesting indeed frauline Lewis. Good evening to you,” he offers with a slight tip of his head. Then he turns and begins moving back to his car. The diver has stood silently at his closed door, amidst the rain the entire time. Only when Kaufmann get’s close does he unlink his hands and step aside to open the door.

"Good evening, Herr Kaufmann." Even now when Alex states that she seems almost puzzled by the use of the foreign honorific. But it doesn't stop her from doing so anyway and then she walks back to her car and climbs inside. A soft whoosh of breath as she takes a moment to consider the job. Alex surveys both phone and card, then she gets her vehicle into motion. There's a job to be done.

Kaufmann driver closes his door, then climbs back in the front. Only when the taillights of Alex’s BMW begin to fade, does the dark sedan turn and head the opposite direction. Indeed, there's a job to be done.
